Two people in custody after chase ends in crash in southeast Houston

HOUSTON -- A car chase in southeast Houston came to a crashing end, trapping one victim inside a vehicle.

Around 3pm Monday, officers identified a black Saturn parked in front of an abandoned building on Southington as the vehicle possibly used in an aggravated robbery Sunday night off Broadway. Officers tracked the car and began chasing it.

As the Saturn approached the intersection of Scott and Old Spanish Trail, it collided with an SUV, which then crashed into a tow truck.

"If I had been going just a little faster, I would have collided with the red truck instead of him. Now that's a very, very scary thought. But as I saw it happening, it seemed kinda surreal," witness Joe English said.

The driver of the SUV became trapped inside and rescue crews used the Jaws of Life to free her. She was transported via ambulance to the hospital. They think she suffered a seizure and say she's getting medical care.

Two people were taken into custody. One of them was transported to the hospital and the other was put in the back of a police patrol vehicle following a foot chase.

"Right in front of my car, eight police officers, probably not four feet behind him, and they were running across here, and they caught him right behind the H-E-B," English said.

Houston police say they believe the suspects are involved in the Sunday night robbery.
