CHICAGO -- The family of Jasmine Curry, 25, said they were told she had been fatally shot on the outbound lanes of the Dan Ryan Expressway near 59th Street in Chicago.

Curry's father Pierre Curry said the mother of five, ages 9 to 1, was pregnant with her sixth child at the time of the shooting.

Illinois State Police have not officially named the victim, but confirm a fatality in what appears to be a drive-by shooting that took place around 4am Wednesday on the Expressway. Police are working to identify the other vehicle involved in the shooting.

Family and friends gathered on an overpass nearby, hoping to find out what happened to Jasmine Curry. Pierre Curry said her uncle informed him of the shooting early Wednesday morning.

"He said Pierre, 'Your daughter just got killed.' I said, 'No, no,'" Pierre Curry said. "I'm dying now. That's her van. That's my baby down there. That's my first born."

Pierre Curry said his daughter was a "sweet, sweet" mother to two girls and three boys, with another on the way.

"She's a great mother, man, five kids. Five kids. I love her to death, man. She love her kids. She's a strong woman," the victim's cousin said at the scene.

Jasmine Curry was supposed to start her first day of work at Ford City Mall on Wednesday. Her father said she loved working.

Curry also lost his youngest child within the last year. Curry said his 17-year-old son was shot and killed near 63rd Street and State Street on Aug. 27, 2013.

"They didn't get the fool that killed my son last year. I hope they get the fool that killed my daughter today," Curry said. "Now I gotta bury another Curry?"

Curry said he thinks his daughter was targeted. State police investigators have not released a motive in the shooting and said it may have been an isolated incident.
