The owners of a pit bull that was shot and killed Sunday at a dog park are devastated

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Charges have been filed against a man who fatally shot a dog at a Clear Lake dog park back in January.

Joseph Potts, 26, is charged with one count of cruelty to non-livestock animal stemming from the shooting at the Bay Area dog park on January 25.

Potts, who is a concealed handgun license holder, shot the dog he claimed threatened his family's safety and his two dogs.

The case was presented to the Harris County District Attorney's office and charges were filed on Monday.
